Philippines was named to honor King Philip the Second of Spain in 1543. The Republic of Philippines is a collection of 7107 islands and is located on the Pacific Rim of Southeast Asia.

This is the 3rd largest English speaking country in the world. It was the only colony of the United States which was made in 1898. They fought along with Americans during World War II. They fought against Japanese from 1941 to 1945 and got their independence in 1946.
Philippines is a blend of cultures where East meets with West, which is the result of the American rule. The Philippines maintained a firm anti communist policy and tied their knots with Southeast Asia Treaty Organization in 1954.
In 1965, political turmoil led to the dictatorship of Ferdinand Marcos and he was exiled in 1986 which was followed by the election of Corazon Aquino.
